Inside Adam Peaty’s ‘hurtful’ family feud sparked by wedding to Holly Ramsay
Adam Ramsay-Peaty and Holly Ramsay-Peaty tied the knot in a festive ceremony last Christmas after a whirlwind romance overshadowed by family drama.
The 25-year-old daughter of Gordon Ramsay and Olympian, 31, met when Adam was competing on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing in 2021 while Holly’s younger sister Matilda was also taking part in the show.
A relationship wasn’t on the cards straight away, as Adam was still with his then-girlfriend Eirianedd Munro, who he shares son George with, but romance later blossomed between the pair, who are now expecting their first child together, in 2023.
Speaking with The Sunday Times of Holly, Adam talked about their connection, saying: ‘She’s been pinnacle [sic] to this moment in my life where I can have peace and I can have that kind of love where it’s not defined by anything else other than the connection that we have. It’s great, and I look forward to the future.’
Adam’s love of the Ramsay family extends to Holly’s high-profile father, Gordon, who he credits for helping him escape ‘three years of hell’ struggling with alcoholism and his split from his ex-girlfriend.
After a romantic proposal in September 2024, the couple said ‘I do’ at Bath Abbey surrounded by their closest family and friends in December 2025.
However, it hadn’t been smoothing sailing ahead of the nuptials, with a rift within Adam’s family overshadowing their journey into marriage.
When did Adam Peaty and Holly Ramsay get married?
Holly and Adam exchanged vows at Bath’s historic Abbey Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul on December 27 before embarking on festive drinks at the Kin House country estate in the evening.
The festive ceremony was a star-studded affair with the Ramsay family in attendance, including Holly’s chef dad Gordon and her mother Tana, as well as her siblings, Matilda, 24, Megan, 27, Jack, 25, Oscar, six, and Jesse, who is one.
The Beckhams, who are close with Gordon and Tana, were also in attendance on the special day.
How did Adam Peaty’s family feud start?
A feud erupted after Holly hosted her hen do at Soho Farmhouse – which was attended by Victoria Beckham, her own mum Tana, and Adam’s sister. However notably absent was his mum Caroline, with other family members later taking aim at the engaged couple.
The sportsman’s aunt Louise weighed in, saying her sister is ‘not ok’ and has been ‘broken’ by her son and his fiancée.
She claimed that Adam is ‘ashamed’ of his brothers, with the family also going so far as to call him a ‘narcissist’ who has been ‘changed’ by money and has ‘forgotten where he came from’.
‘We were sent a save the date and it’s all these country houses,’ a family member told The Sun.
‘I’m on Universal Credit — I can’t afford that.
‘Adam has been changed by money, fame and fortune. He seems to have forgotten where he came from.’
Speaking about what’s unfolded with Adam and his mum, they added: ‘We think he has treated Caroline appallingly. You can hear it in her voice. She’s heartbroken.’
Another source told the publication that while his family were originally supportive of his engagement to Holly, they feel ‘they have been pushed further and further from Adam over the past year’.
The issue apparently stems from Holly not inviting Adam’s mum Caroline, who supported him in securing three Olympic gold medals, to her hen do party, and now Caroline was reportedly ‘banned’ from the wedding following social media activities.
Adam’s brother James was later reportedly arrested upon Adam’s return from his Budapest stag do.
A police statement confirmed a 34-year-old man was ‘arrested on suspicion of harassment. The man was released on conditional bail while our enquiries continue.’
Adam later shared a statement responding to tension within his family, which read: ‘Over the past few days, a lot has been reported and comments posted about the private life of Holly and myself.
‘My sister Bethany, has also been targeted. This has been almost entirely one-sided and, in many cases, excessive and intrusive. What makes it worse is that it has been encouraged by members of my family.’
The swimmer added that whilst he cannot provide full details due to an active police inquiry into ‘serious matters that arose long before recent events’, he remains committed to self-improvement.
‘For those who know me personally, you know that I work so hard on trying to improve myself as a person who wants to contribute to making the world a better place.’
What has Adam said about the feud?
After winning bronze at the Commonwealth Games in July, Adam broke down in tears as he admitted the fallout has taken a toll on him.
The 31-year-old was beaten by Australia’s Sam Williamson and 18-year-old Filip Nowacki of Jersey in the men’s 100 metre breaststroke in Glasgow.
Afterwards he said: ‘It’s hard because I know how hard I work. I know the s*** I’ve been through, which is no fault of my own, but it does take its toll,’ an upset Ramsay-Peaty said after winning the bronze medal.
‘I’m not crying because it’s bronze instead of gold. I’m crying because I know I am better than that.
‘I feel like I couldn’t have put any more in and that’s where it hurts, because I’m like ‘what’s the point of all the metres every day, what’s the point of being exhausted all the time?’
‘What’s the point of having to say no to family events because you can’t go to training’? It has to mean something and for me it has to be human excellence and that is not excellence for me. So that’s the emotion that is unfortunately coming out.’
